Hi. I’m Julio.

I've pursued an engaging entrepreneurial career in community arts education program planning and administration; marketing, promotional, and graphics communications; grant writing, reporting and fund-raising; staff, volunteer and intern hiring, training and performance reviews; Apple and PC work-station set-up and maintenance, along with team software training and tech-support; live-performance main-stage event planning and production, and clinching butts in seats — all leading to collaborations with public and private schools, world-class cultural organizations throughout the Midwest and Central U.S., predominantly in my hometown, Chicago, Illnois; Urbana-Champaign, Illinois; Madison, Wisconsin; as well as in Buffalo, New York, where I was a graduate student and teaching assistant in Studio Art and Design at the Performing Arts Center located at SUNY, University at Buffalo.

My goal has been to assume a creative leadership role at a cultural or educational institution utilizing marketing and visual communications, as well as teaching and administrative experience to attract, grow, sustain, and learn from diverse constituencies.

The curricula I've devised or tracked down are informed primarily by traditional methodologies of master folk art craftspersons of the Caribbean, specifically, those who create Chiringas and Toros (Papalótes), and Caretas de Vejígantes de Loíza and Pónce, Puerto Rico (traditional folk art kites and Carnival masks).

Leveraging over twenty years of professional leadership skills honed throughout my multi-hatted 30-year career as a fine artist, I've gained tenfold through reciprocally training and exchanging skill sets among my fellow teammates, including student youth of all ages, requiring and that I pay attention on an ongoing basis to what's intuitively relevant to our intergenerational (and predominantly Latino and Black) constituencies and supporters, often bilingually in Spanish/español.
